Perfume accessories and the different types of scent available: part 2In the previous article, we discussed about the motivation of people, in particular women wearing perfume and jewellery, which gives rise to the availability of fragrance necklaces, scent pendants and perfume accessories. Affordability is a big concern and such fragrance necklaces are known to be available in different price groups depending on the type of material used in making them. In this section, we will explore the numerous selections of scent you can find in stores.
Scent types were categorized in early 20th century. Thanks to great advancement in the technology of perfume creation, more and more distinct types of scents have emerged. In the early days, most fragrances were extracted and conjured from natural plants and fruits. Due to compound design, synthesis and the changing of tastes over the years, perfumers have come up with new scents to cater to different desires. Today, there are more than ten different classifications of perfume scents. Let’s take a look at six of the most basic fragrance types that you can choose for your fragrance necklace:
1. Floral Fragrance NecklaceAs the name suggests, floral simply means that the scent is created mainly from flowers. Since flowers such as roses, jasmines, lavender and gardenias are mostly associated with sweet smell, it is no surprise that this category is easily the largest and most popular among consumers. Some people will love the scent of one particular flower and choose to use the single floral type, while some may wish to diffuse the smell of several flowers using a single type of perfume. This scent type is known as floral bouquet, and by emitting it through the fragrance necklace you are wearing, you will feel as though you are in the middle of a garden surrounded with your favourite flowers.
2. Chypre Fragrance NecklaceA rather foreign name as you can tell, Chypre was named by a French perfumer, Francois Coty. ‘Chypre’ means Cyprus in French, and the scent is created based on his impression of the island. The scent under this category is extracted from certain resins and lichens such as oak moss, patchouli and bergamot. Hints of these extracts in your fragrance necklace tend to diffuse a sweet, earthly aroma which makes you feel like you are in close contact with Mother Nature. Peace and quiet, tranquility and the aroma of soil, everything is up to your imagination!
3. Citrus Fragrance NecklaceThis fragrance type is derived from citrus fruits which include lemon, tangerine, lime, mandarin and more. Compared to most other scents, this particular category projects a sharp, tangy aroma. If you prefer not to wear a fragrance necklace diffusing an overpowering scent, you may consider giving the citrus fragrance a shot.
On top of that, there is research being done and results have suggested that citrus scents such as lemon oil carry anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects by suppressing dopamine activity. Citrus scents are common choices in aromatherapy, with people purchasing essential oils to freshen the air at home with citrus fragrance.
4. Fougere Fragrance NecklaceFougere means fern in French; this scent is conjured from a combination of fresh herbs and mossy ferns such as lavender, geranium, onion and coumarin. Unlike the various scents mentioned thus far, this type is usually more popular among men due to the urban sophisticated style it brings. The aroma is similar to that of the cool, damp woodlands so if you wish to portray a vibrant, woody-green character, consider wearing a slick-looking fragrance necklace diffusing a fougere scent.
Move on to the third and final part of our article for two more scents: green and oriental.
